About
James Emolo is an award-winning photojournalist and newspaper/magazine editor based in the Northern New Jersey/New York Metropolitan Area.
His career began as a freelance contributor and staffer at local, community news publications. He then advanced to the first of several department leadership positions, including Advertising Editorial Supervisor at The Record where he created special sections and launched new publications for the prominent daily newspaper, and its parent company North Jersey Media Group.
Most recently, Emolo served as a senior member of the Custom Publications Department, USA Today Network, creating content and designing special print and digital products for Gannett Media, Eastern Region.
Coinciding with his supervisory and design responsibilities, Emolo continues
to pursue photojournalism projects, documenting exotic destinations and cultural events, as well as uniquely American subcultures and historic sites. Inspired by his workshop sessions with Michael Yamashita of National Geographic and Arlene Collins of Parsons School of Design, Emolo has traveled throughout South Asia, India and Nepal, and Central and South America to photograph indigenous people and cultures.
Exhibitions of his photographic work have included solo installations at Rodeo Ristra/Art Kore, Hoboken, and The Record/NJMG Corporate Headquarters, Hackensack, as well as the juried New Jersey Fine Arts Annual, held at the Montclair Art Museum.
Currently, James Emolo is a contributing photographer associated with several international stock photo agencies.
